August 2026 brings another round of government benefit payments for millions of Canadians, with many recipients receiving slightly larger amounts than they did last year. The increases follow the Canada Revenue Agency’s annual indexation adjustment, which helps federal and some provincial benefits keep pace with inflation and the rising cost of living.
Beginning with the 2026-2027 benefit year in July, several payments have been increased by 2 per cent. While the adjustment is smaller than the 2.7 per cent increase introduced in 2025, it still provides additional financial support for families, seniors, people living with disabilities, and low-income households across the country.
From child benefits and disability assistance to pensions and provincial tax credits, August includes a busy payment schedule for eligible Canadians. Here’s a detailed look at every major government benefit arriving this month, payment dates, updated amounts, and who qualifies.
Why Government Benefit Payments Increased in 2026
Each year, the Canada Revenue Agency adjusts many federal benefits and tax credits through a process called indexation. This annual adjustment reflects changes in the Consumer Price Index, ensuring that government payments maintain their purchasing power as everyday expenses increase.
The updated rates officially took effect in July 2026, marking the beginning of the new benefit year.
For 2026, benefits increased by 2 per cent. Although this increase is more modest than last year’s adjustment, it still means eligible Canadians can expect higher monthly payments throughout the coming year.
